New module of proprietary WMS automates small package shipping process

HOUSTON, October 26, 2012/PR Newswire/ — Port Logistics Group, the nation’s leading provider of gateway logistics services, today announced a major enhancement to the company’s proprietary Warehouse Management System (WMS), Event Tracker. The new EventShip module completely automates the small package shipping process – regardless of carrier – from order processing through to shipment track and trace. It is fully integrated with the company’s proprietary logistics management technology, allowing optimum flexibility and improved shipping productivity at all of Port Logistics Group’s gateway logistics facilities.

“This is a major step forward in our functionality and reliability to the customers we service,” said Jim Stephens, CIO of Port Logistics Group. “With more and more customers pursuing a multi-channel distribution strategy from a single physical inventory, the ability to quickly evaluate and execute small parcel shipping in a high-volume environment is essential to our customers’ success.”

Chuck Feldman, Director of Application Development for Port Logistics Group, sees the enhancement as a natural evolution in support of increasingly complex supply chain requirements. “Traditionally, parcel shipping in a multi-client warehouse environment involved multiple systems, constant updates, and a reliance on the carrier’s technology to ensure the shipping process went smoothly,” says Feldman. “With EventShip, we’ve taken full control and tightly integrated every step of the parcel shipment process, removing potential fail-points and bottlenecks.” The benefits, says Feldman, include dramatically fewer keyed entries, less training requirements, improved service times, simplified billing, and the ability for customers to track parcels using their own internal reference numbers.

EventShip updates orders during the picking and packing process, generates a carrier label and prints the appropriate shipping manifest as goods are processed. The system provides all necessary compliance documentation, including specialized documents for hazardous materials and international shipments.
